Boat Travel – Finding The Best Cruise For Your Budget

By Ken Morris

If you’re looking in to taking a cruise for your next vacation,
you’re probably having a hard time deciding. There are several
cruise lines that serve many destinations so making a choice can
be a daunting task. Here are some tips for finding the right
cruise vacation for you and your family.

Determining the length of your boat trip is the first step.
Keep in mind the time it will take to get to and from your
ship’s port. If you’re flying, give yourself at least a day in
the port of embarkation since flights can be delayed and you
don’t want to miss the ship. There are trips that last several
weeks such as ones that cross the Atlantic as well as cruises
that pass through the Panama Canal. Week long ones tend to be
most popular since there is plenty of time to get adjusted to
the ship and enjoy all the amenities and sights. There are also
three and four day trips which are popular with young people who
like boat travel for the entertainment.

Your budget is another factor to consider. Cruises can be
cheaper than most people think since they include food and
activities. The most expensive part of a cruise (after the
initial cost) is usually the alcohol since it is not included in
the price. If you’re on a tight budget then consider traveling
in a shoulder or off season; demand is less so prices tend to
drop. If you’re vacation time is flexible then last minute boat
trip deals which are deeply discounted can be found. Also
consider repositioning cruises. These are quite cheap and have
all the amenities of a regular cruise but may not make as many
ports of call.

If you’re set on vacationing during peek season then book your
boat travel well in advance. Boats fill up during the holidays
and summer break. Also consider weather since this could ruin
your vacation. For example, taking a Caribbean cruise in summer
can be risky since it’s hurricane season. You could be stuck in
rough seas or your cruise line might cancel the voyage.

Consider what ship you would like to set sail on. Many
experienced people find out the name of the ship before they
book their trip. If you’re on a tight budget then this might
not be an option but if you can, do some research. Cruise line
websites have details of their ships including occupancy, maps,
photos and amenities.

The ports of call are important to some vacationers more than
others. If you’re someone who likes time to yourself and you
want to explore destinations then choose itineraries that have
several ports of call and that dock during the day.

Cruises can be a relaxing and exciting vacation for the entire
family. Invest some time in researching costs, ships and
itineraries to find the best boat trip for your next holiday.
